Merriman’s Kapalua is a restaurant which is has the most breathtaking oceanfront views and also happens to be one of the most popular wedding venues on Maui. It’s the venue you will want if you’re dreaming of an intimate, elevated Maui wedding experience with world-class food, dramatic ocean views, stunning sunsets, and an atmosphere that feels private, relaxed, and incredibly romantic.
I’ve photographed over a dozen weddings at Merriman’s Kapalua over the years, and every single one has felt special in its own way. What makes this venue so unique is its location right on Kapalua Bay point. The moment you step onto the deck out front, it almost feels like you are on a boat surrounded by the ocean. Even though it is located within Kapalua, it feels tucked away and surprisingly private, especially during sunset when the golden light reflects across the water and the black lava rocks below begin to glow.
The scenery here is absolutely stunning in every direction. The lava rock coastline in front of the venue creates one of the most beautiful and unique backdrops for wedding portraits on Maui. Sunset at Merriman’s is unreal, the warm light, crashing waves, ocean breeze, and dramatic coastline make it one of my favorite places to photograph couples.
There are numerous options for both ceremonies and receptions depending on your guest count and vision for the day. The grassy oceanfront lawn is perfect for intimate weddings and elopements of up to around 40 guests, while the private cabana creates a cozy and elevated dining experience that feels private and tucked away. You can have your ceremony on the oceanfront deck when you buy out the entire restaurant for a truly unforgettable luxury wedding experience.
